2022 sporting calendar: What’s coming up?
With the Lionesses’ victory in the Women’s Euro 2022 final, the world’s eyes are firmly fixed on sports in the UK and the incredible talent emerging from our nation.
No sooner did the women’s football tournament finish, the Commonwealth Games began, bringing athletes and spectators from the Commonwealth of Nations to the host city of Birmingham.
There’s plenty more sporting action in the pipeline for the rest of the year.

European Championships Munich
From August 11 until 21, Munich is playing host to the European Championships where athletes from nine sports will battle it out to be crowned champions. Participating sports include athletics, beach volleyball, canoe sprint, cycling, gymnastics, rowing, sport climbing, table tennis and triathlon.
Cycling 2022 Vuelta a Espana
This year’s Vuelta a Espana is taking place in both the Netherlands and Spain. The best cyclists from around the world will race across different terrain in the searing heat from August 12 to September 4.
Tennis Grand Slam: US Open
The US Open Tennis Championships is taking place from August 29 to September 11. What promises to be an exhilarating fourth and final event of the annual Grand Slam of tennis is being held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York.
Rugby World Cup Sevens 2022
The 2022 Rugby World Cup Sevens will be the eighth edition of the Rugby World Cup Sevens. The 2022 tournament will comprise of 24 men’s and 16 women’s teams and will be played over three days from September 9 until 11, at the Cape Town Stadium, South Africa.
London Marathon
The UK’s biggest and most iconic marathon is being held on Sunday October 2 this year. Participants from around the world will make their way along the world-famous route past many of London’s most recognisable landmarks. Whether you are running, walking, cheering from the side-lines, or watching from home, this year’s London Marathon promises to be the most diverse, equitable and inclusive marathon in the world.
FIFA World Cup 2022
The FIFA World Cup 2022 is scheduled to take place in Qatar from November 21 to December 18. It will be the first World Cup ever to be held in the Arab World, and the second World Cup to take place entirely in Asia.
Due to Qatar’s intense summer heat, the tournament is taking place in early winter, making it the first time the World Cup has not been held in May, June or July.
