Q&A with … Clarissa Halford

When did you join Nelson Policies at Lloyd’s?

I started Nelson in October 2015 – I started as a Admin Assistant, and was promoted to Assistant Underwriter in September 2017. I then went on maternity leave at the end of November 2020 and I am back after having a little girl.

How long have you been working in the insurance industry?

Since I started with Nelsons and have never left! 

What do you like most about working in Insurance?

The types of risks you see are mostly never the same, so the job is never boring! We deal with less vanilla risks than most, leading to these tasks being more engaging and thought provoking. You’ve never seen it all!

How have you found navigating your job during these challenging times on return from Maternity Leave?

I have found it more accommodating due to working from home, I have more time to drop my little girl to nursery or her grandparents and don’t have to sit in the rush hour traffic! And best of all I work right next to my Nespresso machine in my coffee station, so I am never short of coffee! Although I am being pestered by my cats all day long!

What do you like doing in your spare time?

I spend this with my daughter, who loves to see animals and fish and give them all kisses! But also spending time with my friends who are never short of a laugh – and trying every cocktail there is!
