Ryder Cup 2018: All eyes will be on the Albatros Course of Le Golf National

In what will mark the last big tournament of a summer packed with the biggest competitions in the world of sport, is the Ryder Cup 2018. From 28 – 30 September, the 42nd Ryder Cup will be held at the Albatros Course of Le Golf National in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, to the south-west of Paris.

The Ryder Cup 2018 will only be the second time that one of the biggest golfing tournaments in the world, is held in Continental Europe, following the 1997 contest which took place in Spain.

This year’s tournament promises to be an exciting contest, as both the US and European teams loaded with players ranked in the top 30 in the world.

US golfing legend Tiger Woods has insisted he is fit enough to cope with the taxing Ryder Cup schedule. Despite undergoing spinal fusion operations late last year, it looks likely that the 42-year-old will qualify to play in the US Ryder Cup team.

The competition for a place in the European team is fierce this year, with  Ryder Cup stalwarts Henrik Stenson and Sergio Garcia likely to be relying on a pick by captain Thomas Bjorn.

The Ryder Cup is held every two year between teams from Europe and the United States. The contest was originally between Great Britain and the United States, with the first official event taking place in 1927 at the Worcester Country Club in Massachusetts. The tournament’s name originated from the English businessman Samuel Ryder, who donated the trophy.

For such a prestigious and esteemed golfing event, only the finest venues get to host the Ryder Cup. This year’s host, the Albatros Course of Le Golf National in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, is widely recognised as one of the best championship golf courses in Europe, receiving constant accolades and recommendations from professional and amateur golf players alike. The venue has been hosting the French Open since 1991.

Like all sporting stadiums and venues that have hosted events this summer, the Albatros Course of Le Golf National will, of course, be adequately insured so that if accidents occur on or off the golf course, the club has the right cover in place for injuries to players and damage to facilities.
