In the spotlight: A Q&A with Robbie Monk
Nelson Policies at Lloyd’s catches up with Robbie Monk. Check out our interview with Robbie to find out more about his role as Director/Senior Underwriter of the Sports & Leisure division, how he’s been navigating these challenging times, and what he likes doing in his spare time.
When did you join Nelson Policies at Lloyd’s?
I Joined Nelson Policies in April 2015, forming a sport and leisure division with two colleagues with whom I had worked with for many years at Towergate.
How long have you been working in the insurance industry?
I began my insurance career back in 2004 at the tender age of 23. I began in the New Business department but over the years developed my knowledge and also worked within the existing business team progressing to renewals manager in 2013.
When Towergate underwent a restructure, Myself and Lee had the opportunity to join Nelsons and develop our own book of business and broker relationships which have helped the division go from strength to strength.
What do you like most about working at Nelson Sport & Leisure?
I have always said that if you work with good people, you will always enjoy your job. As well as my colleagues within the Nelson’s group, I have formed some great relationships with my broker partners and enjoy working with them to get the results we all want.
My core beliefs are that if you provide a great service as well as be personable and genuinely try to go the extra mile for your clients, you will always be successful. That is what I pride myself on and aim to achieve on a daily basis.
With my love of sports, I enjoy writing policies within the Sport & Leisure sector.
How have you found navigating the role job during these challenging times?
Lockdown has obviously affected the way all business trade and it is no different within the insurance industry. Whilst I am lucky that I have all of the tools available to me to be able to work from home, I believe that close relationships are the key to being successful within the Insurance Industry, so do miss face to face meetings with insurers and broker partners rather than the Zoom calls that we have all got to know so well.
We are fortunate that we have great relationships with our brokers, who have supported us during these unprecedented times as we have strived to support them in turn.
What do you like doing in your spare time?
Most of my time I spend with my Wife and two fantastic children. You will normally find me colouring, playing with dolls on the floor or losing a game of Fortnite or Fifa to my son. I also love football and I am a long suffering West Ham fan having had a season tickets for over 15 years.Back to Blog
